Endovascular Treatment: General Principles

What endovascular treatment is and when it is suitable.


Endovascular treatment is performed from within the vessel, using catheter, balloon, or stent, without a large surgical incision.

The advantage is usually a relatively quick recovery. Suitability is determined by the vessel anatomy and clinical picture.

Not every situation is suited to endovascular treatment — at times open surgery is the more appropriate option.
